About
Kimberly Lisagor is a freelance journalist who has written about travel and the environment for Outside, Mother Jones, Men's Journal, National Geographic Adventure, USA Weekend, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and others.
Outside's Wilderness Lodge Vacations (W.W. Norton & Co., 2004), her guide to more than 100 outdoor getaway destinations in North America, won the Lowell Thomas Award for best guidebook and an Award of Excellence from the North American Travel Journalists Association.
Lisagor wrote the Adventure Adviser column for Outside magazine's award-winning website from 1999 to 2002. She has made appearances on television and radio, and has given presentations at national conventions. She holds a BA in English from UCLA and an MJ in journalism from UC Berkeley.
Based in San Luis Obispo, CA, Lisagor teaches journalism at Cal Poly State University. She is a member of The International Ecotourism Society and the American Society of Journalists and Authors, and is on the board of the San Luis Obispo County Bicycle Coalition. Outside the office, she can usually be found biking, kayaking or running with her husband Scott, son Wes, and canine sidekick, Henry.
